IN DUST

An interactive installation where our self-image crumbles into dust from the wind that fans blow on our skin.

The cult of self-image, self-knowledge, self-publicity. To open the computer screen and see the patterns. Standards of apparent happiness, superficial, unattainable. What if there is no longer a self-image to worship? Would we be free to feel, smell, touch, see? To live?

It is an interactive installation, a visual and tactile poetry about the overvaluation of images in contemporary society. About the cult of self-image and the imposition of beauty standards. Modern society imposes its standards. Men, children and especially women have had their self-esteem challenged for centuries. Today this imposition has become a massacre. Unattainable beauty standards are imposed by the media. The result is psychological disorders, eating disorders, fear…

A screen rests on a table, reflecting the image in front of it, like a mirror. Dozens of fans are arranged around him. As the visitor looks, little by little the fans blow in orchestration, one by one, like small voices. The audience feels the wind moving from one place to another in a programmed cadence and sees their own image on the screen turning into a dust of tiny grains.

The movements of this dust synchronize with the dance of the winds, and we become dusty, we see ourselves and we feel dissolved until we disappear. The wind stops. So there was nothing left. Just us and our empty mirror.

Without our own reflection, the question remains: would we be freer this way?
